The state authorities over the weekend banned the sale, distribution and show of halal-certified merchandise within the state. Commerce and market sources stated that this announcement is unlikely to have an effect on exports that remained outdoors the scope of the ban.
Meat sellers, who have been involved after the announcement, stated it is rather troublesome to distinguish between halal and non-halal meat, as unofficial estimates point out that almost 90 per cent of meat and meat merchandise bought in India are halal.
